Indeed many shops look alike and it could be anywhere in the Netherlands..if only there wasn t the main square that is unique with the remembrance of Vincent Van Gogh a must see. There is one important problem with downtown Etten Leur. You cannot (except for the store called Kruidvat) pay by debit or credit card. Only the Dutch ‘Maestro’ debit card is accepted. And not your mainstream ‘Master’ or ‘Visa’. You have to carry cash at all time. For starters you cannot pay in cash or by card at the large underground parking and on paid parking spots in the streets. Make sure to have cash Euros. Which ironically is hard to get on site, because the only atm machine is located at the city hall which is located in the pedestrian area. You first have to park your car . Go figure.

The problem with all these modern shopping centers is they increasingly look alike. All over the Netherlands branches of the major chains dominate. Very few unique shops. Still this cluster of shops bordering an open square is not too bad. Lots of space, not a lot of noise, central location. well connected with public transport. good options to eat of drink something.
