Skiing in the Netherlands
For our family, this was the very first time skiing in a hall. From various reviews, we knew already that the pistes in Rucphen are rather short; on the other hand, this skiing hall is relatively close to where we live and that's a plus if you don't plan to spend a whole day. We have decided to go for Saturday evening because in weekends it's less busy in the evening and at the same time, the evening tickets are cheaper (Dec2019: 22.50 euro per person for 6-10PM). We were definitely not disappointed. At about half seven, there were several groups of other people but not very busy. After nine, we had the red piste mostly for ourselves. There is a small kids/beginners area (green) directly at the entrance with several inflatable elements. On the other side of the hall, oriented towards the entrance, there's a blue piste with a button lift with vertical poles on recoiling cabels, and a magic carpet. The magic carpet only goes to about half of the piste so it's very fine for the beginners. Next to the green area, there are two red pistes, both with a button lift & a magic carpet. The magic carpet was not much slower than the lift. I didn't like the lift that much because the cable runs very low and the buttons are placed on short poles with a sort of handle you need to pack with your hands to get on but several buttons were missing so we found ourselves hanging just on the handle several times (extra training for your arms ;)). Also the buttons can get quite low when there's a child directly before or behind you. One of the red pistes is actually marked as black and equipped as a snow park / terrain park, with several jumps, rails etc. In my opinion, if you don't need long pistes, there's enough to choose from for the skiers (definitely for beginner to intermediate, but also very good skiers when accompanying their kids) to train and entertain yourself for several hours. If you want to switch to another activity, there are also other attractions next to the SnowWorld, like ice karting, glowgolf and an escape room, and a restaurant (but we haven't visited any of these). You can rent ski+shoes for EUR 12.50 (adult) / EUR 10 (kid<12y), helmets and poles are free. If you don't have suitable ski clothing, you can rent it, too. We have definitely enjoyed our visit. There are other ski halls with longer pistes which may be more attractive but taking into account the distance, I'm sure this was not the last time we have visited SnowWorld Rucphen.
