A fitting memorial
As a history teacher I am very interested in visiting historic sites, especially those associated with World War I and II. Recently I found out about this small but important cemetery in Breda, Netherlands where about 150 Polish soldiers are buried. The people of Breda wanted to remember the men who were among the first to liberate their city. Also, I am of Polish ancestry and wanted to see this cemetery for personal reasons. It is on a very busy street in Breda, but once we were inside the gate it was quite and peaceful. I found it moving to find the graves of the general who wanted to be buried with his men even though he died long after the war. It is a brief stop but just added to my knowledge of how the people of the Netherlands remember their liberators.

Rememberance of the liberation of Breda by Polish soldiers
In World War II Breda was liberated from the Germans by the Polish Army. This Polish War Cemetery is a tribune to the brave liberators of Breda. Their General, mr. Stanislaw Maczek, is also burried at this cemetery. He died after the war and his wish was to be buried along his soldiers.
