    History of Breda explained
This memorial of the ancestors of the royalty of the Netherlands is located at the entrance of the city. In the Valkenberg park when you enter the town over the bridge from the railway station. Nice spot to start your discovery of Breda whilst its inhabitants are passing along on bikes and on foot to all directions in the park and town. It tells the story of Jan van Polanen who was the godfather of the van Oranje-Nassau dynasty. Always nicely decorated with flowers. A perfect start of an enjoyable day in Breda.

    Wilhelmina of Orange honors ancestors
Unveiled in 1904 by queen Wilhelmina the small column lists her ancestors among them Maurits, the military man responsible for the decapitation of van Oldenbarnevelt in 1619. The glorification of the Orange family has a long tradition and the Breda elite was proud to be part of it.
