Castle treasures of the past, art treasures of today. In Museum Helmond old heroes go hand in hand with new masters. Join us on a journey through time. Museum Helmond consists of two special locations, the ancient Helmond Castle and the modern Kunsthal Helmond. You will find them at a 3-minute walk from each other, separated by the Zuid-Willemsvaart. In Kunsthal Helmond you can experience art and photography. We present temporary exhibitions with an international character. We show loans combined with art and photography from the museum collection Man and Work and Modern/Contemporary Art. In the fourteenth-century city castle you will get to know the age-old story of the largest moated castle in the Netherlands and its inhabitants. You will also find the gems from the City History collection. Once a defensive castle, the castle later became a noble house to show off and even a town hall. Helmond Castle has been a museum since 1983.

The museum houses in two impressive buildings
The Helmond Museum consists of 2 impressive buildings. One is a castle - the largest water castle in the Netherlands they say - . Here you experience the castle story and meet your castle residents from the early ages. The other building is the Kunsthal, Here the museum organizes temporary exhibitions with an (inter) national character, about photography and art. I saw the exhibition of Steve McCurry with photographs from the east.

Vlisco
The exhibition was centered around Vlisco, a brand of printed fabrics that is worn a lot in Africa. A British-Nigerian artist sees Vlisco as a symbol of the colonization and decolonization of Africa, based on the fabrics looking authentically African, but still being produced in Europe (Helmond). I thought this basic idea was very nice, and the so was the exhibition. The ticket combines with the nearby Helmond castle, which I find one of the better museum castles in the Netherlands.
