The Glass Farm
Schijndel's market square was badly bombed during World War Two and for decades it remained empty until locally born architect Winy Maas came up (at the 7th attempt!) with the 'Glass Farm'. It's designed to look like a traditional Dutch farmhouse - albeit quite a large one - but look closer and you'll see it's facade is entirely made from glass. Behind the facade of the farm house are shops and restaurants and even some offices. We found we could climb to the top (4 storeys) as well as get an ice cream from a great ice cream parlour in the building. It's one of the most striking things about Schijndel, a pretty small town, so though you'll probably not be hear for very long, this is definitely worth visiting, especially if you're in to architecture.
