Dutch Camel Love

A new experience for this camel chaser .. a camel milk dairy farm in Holland. We were there on a quiet day so did not have the complete "guided tour" but strolled the barns and a field on our own. Most camels were outside in the sun, pasturing and rolling in the dirt. We probably took hundreds of photos! The young ones played with each other. We were given bits of hay and pellets to feed the animals who responded with great affection .. gentle and obviously well-cared-for camels. Smits have 85 of them in the country's biggest camel milk production, a growing industry. These camels are not for riding, have not been trained for it. Besides giving samples of milk and selling it, the reception area has a few souvenirs including a camel milk liqueur. It's best to call ahead for an appointment to get the full educational benefit and lunch in their Arabian setting restaurant.

    this is so much fun!
I went here on a family day, with ages ranging from 13 till 91... and everyone had a great time! Camels are just the weirdest looking creatures and feeding the little ones was just so cute. They have a really nice bar / restaurant area (where we baked camel-milk pancakes), and our tour guide for the round tour was so sweet and attentive, she even did a mini version of the tour for our late arrivals. Definitely a good idea for an original afternoon / morning...

    Horrible!
I am very angry and disappointed with what happened to us today on the Camel dairy Smits (kamelenmelkerij Smits). After 1 hour and 15 minutes of travel, we got there very excited, but when we arrived, a very rude attendant kicked us out of the place, just because while I was waiting in line to show our tickets, my husband climbed a little staircase that led to the restaurant looking for a toilet for our 9 year old daughter who was in desperate need to use the toilet. All of the sudden, this attendant started yelling at my husband, my husband tried to talk to him, I also tried to talk to him, but screaming he opened the door and let us out, not even tried to listen to us. My 9 year old daughter couldn't even use the the toilet and came out crying very scared. It was a very frustrating and traumatizing journey for a child. Horrible! Do not recommend it to no one! ????
