On the old town walls
Once upon a time Den Bosch boasted over four miles of defensive walls. Wind mills, cannons and sturdy towers were all part and parcel of these historic bastions. Despite the fact that most of them have disappeared, the city is still proud of its architectural and military past. One of the best spots to see and experience this rich history is the Bastionder where you can see a lovely city park with possibly the best view of Den Bosch over the Bossche Broek. The last part of the fortifications were added to the fortress (Bastion Oranje) in 1634. In the spring thousands of crocuses are in bloom, in summer you can have a picnic underneath its ancient trees and in the autumn this rustic oasis is a great place for a walk. The underground information centre offers visitors information about the military history of the city across the centuries.

Interesting presentation of the old city wall, cafe and information desk.
This is a handy first stop for the City, especially if you are coming from the station - it offers tourist information, a cafe and the chance to orientate yourself in the ancient town by seeing where the walls ran and how the City has developed. There is also a pleasant spot to sit on the roof terrace overlooking the river, and public toilets.

very interesting stop on our boat ride.
we stepped out of the boat and climbed the steps up to the bastion and enjoyed the wide view over the outskirts of den bosch. this old fortification incl old guns was the main city wall when fighting the province of Gelre (across the river Maas). entering the sub terrain area there was a large gun called Groote Griet which dates back to the 1500's very nice stop for 30- 45 min
