It’s the story

It’s the story behind the house that makes it an attraction. That AND the way it photographs with a sunset or without, with or without a hawk or snowy owl perched on the chimney. And the story of how a community rallies around a fabulous part of history and raises funds to keep it from being torn down.

    Icon on the marsh.
This lovely old house has been painted by a lot of artists. I'd like to paint it myself. It's a sweet, pink "lady" from the past, very evocative, standing alone with the gorgeous marsh as backdrop. Something you'd expect to see in a Wyeth painting. Whenever I go to Newburyport, I rush to take photos of it...and to be sure it's still there.

    "The Spite House"
"In 1925, a wife agreed to divorce her husband on the condition he build her an exact duplicate of the home they shared in town. Because she didn’t specify where the house should go, he built it where it would cause her the most unhappiness: by itself, far from everything, no fresh running water (only salt). There’s a term for this: “spite house.”"
