The volunteer who had actually lived the history opened specially for us and brought the museum to life.

The volunteer who had actually lived the history opened specially for us and brought the museum to life. A highlight for me was the leatherwork on the seats of one particular train that was 1900s. The leatherwork was in great condition and was in pristine condition with intricate pre industrialisation imprints.

    Tribute to a Fascinating History
This is a terrific museum, not just for the fabulous trains preserved there, including the first air-conditioned train in Australia, but for the glimpse it provides into Broken Hill life. This is not just a transport museum, but there is also a Hospital Museum, and an Immigration Musem attached. The exhibits are informative and well curated. It was very quiet during our morning visited, so we were able to browse through the exhibits at our own pace, imagining what it was like to travel in those wonderfully luxurious (for the times) carriages, reading some fascinating personal histories, and learning a lot about the rich history of Broken Hill in the process.

    So glad we saw it.
We just had a couple of days visiting the sights of Broken Hill. This charming railway museum was not on our priority list, we just happened on it in passing, but it turned out to be the highlight. It was like a step back in time, being able to go behind-the-scenes of a charming old railway station, the engine and the carriages. The stories of the early settlers and immigrants and their more recent counterparts, written by themselves, gives a wonderful, personal experience to us all. Put it at the top of your list.
