Newcastle Museum, New South Wales, Australia

Well presented and informative local museum

On a recent visit to Newcastle, we visited the Museum of Newcastle and found it a very informative insight into the history of the city and its community. The museum is designed for education and suitable for children covering many facets of life there from the Steelworks period, sporting achievements, war-time experiences and local identities of note whom came from there. An amusing exhibit is a collection of various containers (tins and packets) for food and medicines from various decades - a step back in time. The Museum is close to the promenade around the Port of Newcastle and easy walking distance.

Great day of learning for kids
Amazing experience learning about the steel making in Newcastle. Wonderful sea monsters exhibition with great models and displays. Lots of displays about the history of Newcastle. No cafe on site but plenty of options near by. Entry is free to the museum however the Sea Monsters Exhibit does have a modest fee.

    Local gem of a museum
Great museum to spend an hour or so in. It is free of charge to enter and see the main exhibits which tell the story of Newcastle and the surrounding area. There are also special exhibitions which cost extra. Located in the Honeysuckle area of Newcastle, it is next door to the Visitors Centre and located in the old train workshops.
