Refreshing powers of Tea Tree oil
Whilst in the Byron Bay area we had heard of the Tea Tree lakes and were determined to check them out so after talking to some locals headed off to Lake Ainsworth - there are 2 more local ones the main being on indigenous tribal land near Tallow Bay but that is determined by the indigenous people to be for females only and we didn't want to offend them. On initial arrival you will find plenty of parking as well as plenty of good shade as side of lake and toilets should you need to change. Initial impressions can be bad as the water is a brown colour because of the tea tree oil from the trees surrounding the lake but the lake is warm and the bottom sandy and shallow so safe for families of which there were many visiting. The experience is extremely pleasant and we can out of the lake feeling refreshed and revitalised. A great place to visit.

Leisurely stroll without the crowds
Whilst visiting Lennox Head recently, we enjoyed a relaxing walk along the Ainsworth Lake precinct. It has a good level path for easy walking. Located near the Lake entrance is a coffee kiosk which is located on the beach. We enjoyed our walk here and appreciated the spectacular outlook. There is plenty of seating available for picnics and resting.

An alternative to the beach
Lake Ainsworth is a shallow freshwater lake just a few metres (one dune) behind the local beach. It has been nicely set up for visitors, with toilets, BBQs, picnic tables and areas of lawn. It is an attractive spot, and there is also a kiosk on the beach side. The lake's waters are brown, stained by the tannins leaching from the leaves of hundreds of melaleuca trees that crowd around the lake's shores. Didn't look too inviting for taking a dip, but once you are over the water colour was told it is an excellent place for a refreshing dip.
