Nice museum, friendly attendant
New Brunswick boasts a strong shipbuilding tradition. Visitors to Sackville can explore this aspect of the province’s industrial past at the Boultenhouse Heritage Centre, named after the town’s most prolific shipwright, Christopher Boultenhouse. The Centre consists of three buildings — a farmhouse built by the Bulmer family ca. 1790 which is the first frame and oldest house in Sackville, a house built in the Greek revival style in 1842 by Boultenhouse, and the Anderson Octagonal House ca. 1855 by sea captain Georg Anderson. The Centre has several exhibit rooms, a gift shop, a research and genealogy centre, and a multipurpose meeting room.

Small collection focusing on 19th century shipbuilding and small town life, unique in situ wallpaper
The collection is shown in several rooms of an elegant 19th century shipbuilder's home that is worth visiting for architectural interest alone. One exhibit focuses on domestic life in that period, while another has a large scale model of a shipbuilding yard. There is an extensive local genealogy collection upstairs. If you are particularly interested in architecture, ask to see the office spaces in the back of the building which are the oldest original structure. It has beautiful 12" wide pine boards and an old stone fireplace.

sackville..university town...farming area.
A lovely well organized historical home in town. Very interesting background information about activities, employment and employers and social activities in past times. I spent a pleasant afternoon and recommend a visit.
