first attempt to Gunung Datuk

Visited gunung datuk last weekend 2nd Feb 2020. There are ample parking space and toilet at base. bring along headlamp, enough water, energy gel, food etc. The park ranger counter will open around 6:30AM on weekend and you will be charge RM5 per person. For myself start hiking at 4:20 AM and reach the peak around after 86min climbing. The first 1KM will be challenging but it will get slightly easier afterwords. Going down will take about 64min all with my pace. After reach at ranger counter pay RM5 and take short break and do another loop. Total elevation one way 647meter After finish you climb dont forget to try out the grabok salai (masak lemak pedas) on the way back for a treat.

G dato to puncak 701
90 minutes from KL. 1.5-2.5 hours hike up to first stop Gunung Dato for breathtaking views in the air. head to puncak 701 if you in for extra exercise and you will clock 14km with 8 hour hike. NO water source along the way so bring your 2.5L of water. leeches noticeable after gagak onwards so bring your insect repllents to spray those buggers.

Great Hike
Great small peak to climb. 2-3 hours up depending on fitness. First part of the trail is a bit steep - but eases off near the top. Great view from the top. Trail is shaded as through thick forest.
