Walking Paradise in Basque's Pyrenees
We spent an entire week exploring the hills and hamlets nearby Georgina's farmhouse. Our experience was largely self-guided but Georgina provided a well thought out orientation of the geography and of the history of the area and its people. We were blessed to meet four other wonderful guests, each of whom added their own spicy flavour to our time together at meal time, during some walks and during the evenings. Our breakfasts and lunches were self-made whereas our evening meals were prepared for us. We were fortunate to have three different cooks over 7 days. In addition, we were treated to a delightful wine tasting and lunchtime feast at a Michelin-quality restaurant in Donnemaria, one of the small towns in the area. Georgina's knowledge of the Basque area's history and culture was impressive and she was always willing to expound on characteristics that make the area special. Furthermore, Carlos was always present to provide assistance in helping make our stay more comfortable. Thanks to Carol, Coko and Fiona for preparing our supper meals and for adding their stories to our family table. We were also treated to an evening of music by a local guitarist and singer....can't remember his name...he had two huge books of local Basque music but also responded eagerly to our requests for some recognizable tunes....a memorable last night at the farmhouse. Our accommodations were simple but comfortable with ensuite bathrooms in each room. We had wonderful views of the hillsides around us and loved our daily walking adventures. It was a wonderful week with wonderful people and we have many fond memories (and photos).

Magical adventure in Basque Country
Here we are at her farmhouse near Ituren, in the Basque Pyrenees, greeted by the one and only energetic and bubbly Georgina Howard. In no time, she made us feel like her cherished guests. As we settled into our very comfortable accommodation with stunning views of the valley delightful bites came out and wine…then her daughter, Marion who is so special and brilliant. These memories are unforgettable, remaining ever vivid and heartwarming! What more can someone ask for! This is for someone who loves the country side like our group – and a kind of magic one doesn’t find very often. We adore nature, good food, hikes, stories, and fun adventures. We discovered the nooks and crannies of this beautiful mountain area full of small farms, rocky steams, and cobble stone road hamlets with well done trail maps and sometimes with our amazing Georgina who loved sharing more of the history and basque culture. After a full day of activities this was followed by highly anticipated family style dinners which never disappointed anyone! Thank you Fiona & Carol! Countryside is breathtakingly beautiful.
