Catedral de Pamplona, Navarra, Spain

Unsuspectingly enjoyable

As a last minute thing we popped into the cathedral... glad we did. Totally worth the time....really innovative method of display using mixed media (sound, light, carvings etc). We weren't expecting lot and we loved it. Don't miss the cloisters as they were best part.

    Visiting Pamplona.
The Cathedral of Santa Maria de Pamplona is a Catholic temple in the city of Pamplona (Community Foral of Navarra, Spain). It is one of the most complete architectural complexes for presenting in addition to the usual ones in other cathedrals such as church, cloister, chapter and sacristy, it has an ashlar, refectory and dormitory; which are more typical of monasteries. The estancias are from different periods and styles, predominantly Gothic between the 14th and 16th centuries. It is situated on the site occupied by the Romanesque cathedral.

    Must visit in Pamplona
Gothic cathedral built during the 14th and 15th c. over the remains of a Romanesque church that had collapsed but archaeological investigations have found that it was built over a Roman capitol. Beautiful interiors housing the mausoleum of Carlos III el Noble and his wife Leonor de Trastámara and magnificent cloisters built between 1286 and 1472 -- it is one the very few intact cloisters of this quality to be found in Europe. Entrance fee is EUR 3.
