A must

We are familiar with the national museums in Thailand, as we both are national museums of Bangkok volunteers. We have been impressed by the quality of the exhibition in this museum, display comments, and those available through bar codes. Entrance fee: ฿ 150.-

    Well worth a visit.
This museum is the main regional museum of the Southern part of Thailand. Please note that musuems in Thailand are not particularly well funded and unlike many museums in the UK are not full of interactive dispays. Don't let that put you off visiting if you are in or near Nakhon Si Thammarat. Please also note that it is common practice in Thailand for non Thai visitors to pay a higher entrance fee than Thai nationals. This museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 9am to 4pm. There is an English language leaflet explaining the different exhibitions and although the staff do not speak much, if any, English, it is obvious that they are very proud of their museum and will make you feel very welcome. In the museum there is a prehistoric gallery, Thai art gallery, sculptures from the south of Thailand, folk arts, ceramics and perhaps best of all, a section called "local wisdom in Nakhom Si Thammarat" which comprised a series of Thai style rooms representing aspects of life from birth to death. You can usefully spend a couple of hours here and as there are a few temples ( wats) close by, you could easily spend a day in the area. There is a little gift shop. It is important to remember that this museum is not the V&A in London so please don't visit with pre-conceived ideas about how museums should be and please don't argue about having to pay more because you are a visitor!
