Brno is Mendel!

Brno is Mendel’s city. You will find buildings, streets, institutions, and more, related to the eminent Johann Gregor Mendel, this founder of genetics, this most dynamically developing life science, which started with his crossing of plants and later, as a monk and pastor, took him into several fields. The full story, taking you from his beginning to modern genetics you will find in The Muni Mendel Museum which is located in the old Augustinian Abbey. Part of it looks like an ordinary museum, but the complex hold so much more and is actually a full working abbey with it’s monks, it’s library and the impressive Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady. We spent hours there, being a group of scientists and museum workers and got probably more than the average museum visitors (a visit to a “living” Gregor Mendel in the form of an actor inside Mendel’s cell.) There is so much to experience – enjoy it.

Decent small exhibition/museum on Mendel and genetics
This place is the exact spot where Gregor Mendel, the father of genetics, performed his peaplant experiments. The museum sits next to the garden, observatory, and church where Mendel studied. There is a small cafe inside with some gift items. The admission ticket was about €2-3, with free coat and backpack check. Inside you're guided by a timeline of Mendel's life, his parents, his study, his notes, and any new advances in genetics. There's interactive peas where you can count the results of a punnet square. The museum is quite small. It took me about 20-30 minutes to get through it. Friendly staff, and great history.

a must see for those who value knowledge
A small but very important museum for all mankind. If you are in Brno, be sure to see it. It can be visited in a short time, and you can see it in more detail, depending on how much time you have. There is also a small cafe. If you are with children, there is also a large children's park nearby.
