Memories in Stone!
I was always thrilled with yet another Isabel Bloom. When I moved to the QC in '65 , it seemed that the pieces were highly favored by anyone who knew anything about sculptures by Isabel Bloom. The Lutheran Hospital had an amazing large floor standing fountain in the center of the lobby. It was a woman dancing in the field of flowers with small children. I liked it, but really didn't begin collecting until the '70s when we moved into our new home. Everyone had the rolly polly baby with his head down in summersault position . I too had one before long. The pale green color of the wash is pleasant and relaxing. Over the years I've collected just about all the statues of parents, friends, children and angels. I even had the pleasure of meeting Isabel in the Village of East Davenport one day while shopping. Isabel had her own specific style of sculpture, as did her husband John. With her passing, came a little different style and colors to the items. They are a piece of Quad City memoribilia. They take note of our joys, situations and dreams. If you've never been to the studio in the Village, or downtown Moline, it is worth the trip. You might just find a piece of your memories to mark in stone, as I have.
