Butterworth Center & Deere-Wiman House, Illinois, United States

Fascinating Bit of Deere History in Moline
Excellent and informative (and free) tour by a knowledgeable guide with good humor. Learned about John Deere and the beginnings of the manufacturing in Great Detour IL and then Moline and beyond. The 2 mansions (now part of a foundation) showed the affluence of the second and third generation of the family as well as its generosity toward the local community including the Congregational Church. Providing these facilities for local not-for-profit organizations at minimal cost demonstrates that industrialists were not totally profit-oriented. The homes show advanced features including showers, other indoor plumbing, and even organs.

Hidden gem
This is a beautiful event center, formerly a home, in the historic section of Moline. Definitely worth a visit if you love beautiful architecture and design. Don’t miss the fabulous pipe organ and the amazing ceiling painting. It was imported from Europe and placed in the home.

great family event
We took our 2 four yr old grandchildren and a 3 yr old grandchild. They LOVED the John Deere Museum. All hands on and learning situations. The best part.. it was totally free. Very unexpected. We spent 2.5 hrs here with young children and they were never bored. Great place to spend with your child!
