Beautiful area and good water
Lake Mainit is a very nice place and the town of Mainit is good for a stop. As we travel on a motorcycle and met a couple that traveled on bicycles, I would not worry too much about being ambushed. We traveled on dirt roads from Mainit to Tugunun Falls to Ba-das and were not robbed or kidnapped.

Just A Drop By
As the title would suggest, I haven't fully explored Lake Mainit but we have passed by this beautiful lake on our to Surigao City from Butuan City and vice versa. Whenever we got time, we stop by to take in the beautiful scenery it offers. You can see part of the lake from the national road. During high tide the water rises to the road and a it's great sight to see especially during sunset. I will soon visit one of the resorts in area to fully experience Lake Mainit.

Lake Mainit: Fun Factor = 10
My friend who's living in one of the barangays along the coastline invited me to his place recently so I had the chance to blessedly explore this lake for about a week. You can almost do anything here - family picnic, fishing, boating, cave exploring, etc.. Had the chance to mingle with the local folks and they were nice people! Please don't expect to find high end resorts here though or you'll be disappointed. But if you are the adventurous type this place is carved right for you. By the way, peace and order situation here doesn't pose danger to future visitors. My friend told me no such incident happened for a very long time. I plan of going back very soon and bring along with me some of my friends. A week or two? Sounds good!
