Probably the best railway museum in Sweden
Very complete museum, though I expected more trains outside, considering the amount of trains we find in Lulea's Museum, which is kept by volunteers. A lot of information to read, available both in Swedish and English, also nice if you have kids. The outside area is also very nice, and you should bring food, and eat outside, while you look at the small train that runs around the museum (which you can take for 20 SEK). The museum is not expensive (60 SEK/adult) and the shop has interesting items. Allow yourself 2-3h to see the whole area.

Old trains are more fun than you would imagine.
Can old trains really be fun? I must admit my expectations were on the lower side of the scale, but I'm glad that I gave The Swedish Railway Museum a chance! It was very interesting to see and actually be able to climb on to engines and waggons all the way from the mid 19th century and up til today. The museum claims it is one of the finest collections in the world, and I cannot argue with that. It is very easy to follow the development of the swedish railways and also get a good insight in other historical events a long the way. There are also model trains and a gift shop. I understand that there are historic trains departing from the central station on a few special occasions every year. It would of course be nice if that was a more regular service, as the museum is situated a bit outside of the city center and might be a little difficult to find.
