Royal Oak Music Theatre, Michigan, United States

Nice venue for acoustic music

The theater offers a nice and more intimate setting for acoustic music. We attended a concert by Tommy Emmanuel that was outstanding. The site lines were good, and where we were sitting, the sound was excellent. There is a small bar at the back of the auditorium. The drinks were inexpensive and very little waiting for a large crowd.

    Unhappy Visitor
You are eligible for a parking ticket in the city of Royal Oak even after paying to park in a public garage. I learned this the hard way in March of 2014 when I returned to my vehicle after a night on the town. It's sad to see a municipality so desperate for revenue. I doubt if I will ever feel the need to return.

    Close Venue
We just saw Uncle Kramer here. The venue has metal detectors and they check every bag so we felt safe. The security staff was on the ball, we saw a few people getting rowdy and they removed them right away. The bar tenders were extremely fast and honest. They try to quote the drink cost ahead of time to speed things up but if they ring it up and their quote was wrong they always brought the change back. Not that I expected them to be dishonest, they were just so busy, it would have been easier to not care. The best part about this venue is its small. It is probably 1/3 the size of the Fox Theatre. We were on the main floor 3rd deck and could see perfectly. It felt more personable because you were so close to the performers. The worst part was there were no seats. We stood from 7-12 on concrete, our feet and backs were killing us. Wear comfortable shoes. Sound quality was ok. I couldn’t make out one word of the first performer but it seemed a little better as the night went on, maybe her voice was too high? The lights and screen behind the performance were awesome.
