Special Spot At The Center Of The Woodward Dream Cruise!

An amazing place just happens to be at the very center of all the activity each August during the Woodward dream Cruise. A good spot to relax and take in all the sweet classic exhaust. Very few communities can lay claim to such spot, Yes, New York's Central Park, but this one comes without the East Coast Angst. Chill baby!

    Royal Oak Memorial Park, NW Corner Woodward Ave @ 13-Mile Rd, Royal Oak, MI.
    I only thought that Memorial Park has been there all of my life. I checked it out and basically, it was officially dedicated June 26, 1939, it has been there for almost all of my life. So I have a lifetime of memories involving Memorial Park. I paid it a visit on a magnificent Autumn Indian Summer afternoon on the 17th of October. Memorial Park has baseball and softball diamonds, a football field, a Pavilion that may be rented (NOT on-line but in person at 1600 N. Campbell Road), picnic tables some with fire grills, a great playground area. I did not see any tennis courts at Memorial Park during my visit but its website indicates there are some. I did not find any large parking areas but surely there have to be some. My wife and I parked on Woodward Avenue at the North end of the park in a small parking lot beside a car dealer. There is also some street parking on Starr Road on the North side of the park. It is a very pleasant park. During the August Dream Cruise, Memorial Park is filled to the maximum with vintage cars.

    Pleasant Place for a Picnic
    This is a beautiful, but small, park on the world famous Woodward Strip. It provides a beautiful, shaded place for a picnic every summer day. Make sure to stop by on the Sunday in August that is Woodward Cruise Day. If you don't know what that day is, look it up. Cars from the 30s and 40s to power cars of today will be within feet of you. Hungry? There are many good restaurants within 4 miles of you in either direction on Woodward. Check the site maps for Royal Oak, Pleasant Ridge, Ferndale, and Birmingham for ideas.
