Old Presque Isle Lighthouse, Michigan, United States

4.5 (31 reviews) Spent Ranking #3 in Presque Isle Lighthouses

Lake Huron lighthouses

National Historic Register! This was a very quiet spot where you can climb up the lighthouse (not very tall but its only $5 for both this one and New taller lighthouse mile down the road), and its right on the beach that you can just sit and enjoy the sound of the waves or if its hot you can wade out into the water. The kids enjoyed seeing the old light house and being able to climb up. You can also ring the old bell!

    Small lighthouse
Old Presque Isle light is 30 feet tall and 18 feet in diameter at the base — consists of the bottom two-thirds made of stone, with a round brick section above. It is an easy climb with a nice picturesque view. You can climb this lighthouse and the old Presque Isle lighthouse for $5. The keepers house/gift shop is small but interesting.

    Beautiful views.
We had to walk in because the access road was closed. The buildings, including the bathrooms were also closed due to Covid. We parked at the end of the drive and walked back to the lighthouse. It wasn't far, maybe 1/4 mile, and an easy flat road. The grounds were beautiful with views of Lake Huron. It is just down the road from the New Presque Isle lighthouse, so it's nice to see them both. The drive to get to this lighthouse is a little more remote. The roads curve around two lakes and we didn't pass any gas stations or stores after leaving Alpena. Overall worth the visit, and would like to come back when it is open for tours.
