Nature Hikes

Over the past couple months I made several hikes oh the trails available in the park. During the summer, the dense trees, well maintained trails and beautiful scenery mad for a peaceful, meditative walk. In the last couple weeks I was able to return for an Autumn Colors hike with the Sierra Club. The changes were incredible and breathtaking. The bright reds, deep oranges and mellow browns truly make you believe in the existence of a greater power. Come for a visit and appreciate the beauty of Livingston County.

    Great area
I have been going to Brighton Rec Area for many years, since I live close by. There are a lot of things to do in this area. I just went hiking on the horse trails last weekend and it was great. Lots of fauna and flora in the area. They trails are rustic and there are horses using the trail also. You can rent horses at the horse stable to ride on these trails, which go for miles. If you don't like rustic, go across the street, they have paved trials. Both areas have great views, lots of trees, streams and a few lakes/ponds. There is also camping on Bishop Lake. I haven't been there in a long time, however, when I did go, I thought it was a nice, well maintained campground. There is a beach with a small lake, volleyball courts, picnic tables, also, in the summer there is a small food stand. This has a little bit of everything for everybody,

Beautiful State Park Close to Downtown Brighton
Hubby and I wanted to attend the "Smokin' Jazz, Barbecue and Blues" festival in downtown Brighton to start our trip to explore Michigan (see separate review of the festival). We enjoy staying at state parks with our travel trailer and found this park on Bishop Lake. There are 2 campgrounds classified as "modern" and 1 "rustic" from which to choose. One modern campground is by the lake and the other (more shaded) at the top of the hill. One can easily walk to the lake from the easy, well maintained trails. We chose the shaded campground at the top of the hill. The "modern" sites have electric at the site and although no concrete slab, the sites are pretty level. You fill up with potable water on your way in and there are 2 dumping stations as you leave the park. There is no cable or Wi-Fi provided but we found good reception for our TV. just from the antennae. We were only there for camping but were impressed with all the amenities for family fun. There is a swimming beach, fishing pier, and the boat launch even provided handicap access for kayaks! Very Cool! You can rent boats, kayaks, and paddles and firewood is provided for $5/bundle. Would definitely go back there if we are traveling through MI again.
