Views amazing , museums free and worth a visit.

Old town city walls, worth a visit for the wonderful views. The museums inside are free with all the archeological discoveries on show throughout the various conquest periods with lovely guides showing us round. Don’t miss the ancient reservoirs and decanting rooms through little doors.

Stunning views of the old city and the Mediterranean Sea!
This "Old City" is located within the confines of a 16th century fort. It is easily accessible from street level by elevator (to the CIMLAV). Besides getting a look at locally inhabited areas still in use today you get a wonderful set of seascapes of the Med.

Great day trip from Torremolinos - hidden wonder!
It seems to be difficult to get much information about Melilla, but it is worth the effort, and actually an easy and economical day trip from Malaga and Torremolinos. We paid Euro 70 for round trip air tickets on Iberia for a 35 minute flight. The airport is then only a 10 minute or less taxi ride (7-8 euros) to Plaza de Espana, and from there you can easily access by foot most of the attractions. We spent most of our time at the fortress, and it is well worth the trip. I'm amazed it's not on a list of must see locations for Costa del Sol day trips. The old fort is an great experience to wander about. The views are incredible. It certainly has the feeling of north Africa without the hype and hassle of Tangier. We found a great little cafe in the fort for wine and tapas that simply took your breath away as a relaxing scenic setting. I highly recommend this trip! Also, some nice interesting architecture and park areas in the central city. My recommendation would be to take a morning flight over, the eat lunch in town and do a walk around town looking at churches, building and do your shopping as shops are closed during siesta time until around 5 pm. After that then walk up in the old city and fort area for the afternoon it will be the highlight!. It's an excellent place to wander and meander into all the little nooks and crannies. Have an afternoon snack up in this area. Then you can head back down toward Plaza Espana area to catch a cab back to the airport. When we went there was a 5:45 flight. You can leave downtown around 5 pm and have oodles of time to spare getting to the airport - it is tiny with no congestion. In fact all of Melilla is pretty laid back, sort of traditional Spanish with a touch of Morocco feel. In all, highly recommended for a relaxing, but novel day.
