Part of spain in Morocco !

It is like a mini Spain here but there are also many Moroccans who live here. The young men can be a little troublesome around the beach area and I wluld not venture out of city centre at night. Centre is safe. Interesting history . Some stunning architecture here . A great mix of spanish and Moroccan food. The border control with Morocco is rather like Berlin in the old days ! Nador is not a welcoming place to visit !!! Melilla is generally warm and friendly. Mainly Spanish tourists . Beaches are lovely.

    Interesting border scene
I made a day trip to Melilla and Nador to avoid bad weather in Malaga. It was an interesting experience, but in order to properly enjoy it you need to have a keen interest in geopolitical oddities. Melilla is in the same category as Gibraltar: a piece of land that is not much different from the country it belongs to, but totally out of place. But you only notice the oddity when you leave the center and visit the border. I would really recommend doing this, because this is what makes Melilla so special, not the city center or the fort or the beach. The border fence is impressive, with three layers and watchtowers. The border crossing is equally special, not just because of the fencing (which consists of thick steel bars here) but also because of the crowds moving across by foot. If you cross towards Morocco you can visit the town of Beni Ansar by foot. A totally different world from Melilla, yet only half a kilometer apart. A bus or taxi can take you to Nador for 8 euros in 15 minutes (only 12 kilometers). That is a big city with more shops, people and buzz, but otherwise it's much the same idea as Beni Ansar. I'm glad I made the trip, but it's not a place to revisit on a regular basis.
