Hidden treasure

A highlight of Salem - the Ropes Mansion is a beautifully preserved 18th century home with a rich history. It is owned by the Peabody Essex Museum and is perhaps best known for its role in Hocus Pocus. The tour is free and at your own pace - when we were there they were open on weekends only. You can also tour the garden. This is one of the few of Salem's many historic homes that you can actually see inside!

    Allison's House from Hocus Pocus!
Beautiful Mansion, and it is free to roam the property without any form of ticket. I am not sure if anyone is allowed inside for a tour, but I also did not look into that. From the outside it is very well taken care of, and it was super exciting to see a place from the movie! Definitely stop by and take in the beauty of this mansion if you have the time.

Glimpses of living in a mansion
Came upon this mansion while walking by - free entry, not only to the garden but also the home. This was interesting to see how three sisters, who inherited this property, were able to keep it and leave it to future generations as a history museum. All the rooms are easily accessible, but there are steep narrow stairs to the upstairs. Seeing everyday items, such as enormous travel trunks, puts into perspective how different live was then. Beautiful garden which is home to a number of cardinals.
