Great Wolf Lodge - Water Park, Massachusetts, United States

3.5 (358 reviews) Spent Ranking #4 in Fitchburg Water Parks

Fun but crowded and could use deep cleaning

Fun place- an indoor theme park with lots of water slides and tons of arcade games. 9 and 11 year olds having a blast but are probably on the older side for lots of the themed activities (kid yoga, magic). Staff has been very nice and place seems safe and well-run. Carpets throughout are dirty so bring flip flops! Beds are comfy but our room had dust bunnies and popcorn under one of the “wolf den” bunks. We got to breakfast at 7:30 (opening time) and had to wait in line for 30 min for a table... apparently they take reservations which we didn’t realize. We drove to Zapatas for Mexican food for dinner which was great - lines for dinner were too long. Overall a fun place, kids are loving it!

Don't go yet if you are concerned about COVID
Pros: My young kids love it there. They love the wolf theme and water slides. We have visited many times over the years. Cons: Park did not enforce masking and distancing. There were VERY few people masked at all in the lodge common areas, halls, elevators, arcade, on the way to the water park, in food lines, etc, including kids age 5-12 who are not vaccinated. No floor markers for distancing in waterslide lines. We didn't notice any signage at the start of the lines or along the way to remind patrons. We recommend the park at least put that in place. Groups of kids crowded us in lines. We went on a school day so that park was less crowded. When census is low, they slow down the water slides so that short lines still move slowly, leaving you in line a long time with a bunch of people crowding forward as the minutes tick by. After two trips down, we had to avoid the water slides, which was a bummer for my kids. We still really enjoyed the uncrowded lazy river, wave pool, and other attractions. I realize that everyone makes their own valid decisions about COVID risk, and the park ensures that you acknowledge the risk when you make a reservation. My concern is that the management does not enforce some of the safety measures listed on their website. Better signage could at least encourage it. On the upside, many (though not all) of the staff were masked, and they had hand sanitizer throughout the water park and lodge facilities. Like everyone, we are balancing doing fun activities with COVID risk. I know that it's possible to encourage distancing, because another water park we visited did a great job of it. We'll be patronizing that other water park for now. A minor frustration was all the yelling and running in the hallways until midnight. Staff asked them to quiet down (thank you) but it resumed after about 10 minutes.
