Orientalist Fun

The Orientalist Museum of Marrakech has been created recently by the same owner as the Macma Museum in Gueliz. That new place in the Medina offers a wide view on the cultural history in Morocco through an exclusive collection of Orientalist paintings (from Delacroix to Majorelle), and precious antique artpieces of moroccan artcrafters. The building is a typical Saadian Riad from the end of 17th century. From the terrace, the visitor can admire an exclusive panorama of the city and the Atlas Mountains.

Wonderful small museum with a rooftop café
Excellent small museum dedicated to those artists and collectors who visited Morocco and saw the country with a European gaze. Charming staff and welcome. Attention: five or six “helpers” tried to deflect me from going there, hoping that I’d pay them to go somewhere else. Just persevere and you’ll get there without any outside help …

    Nice collection and friendly staff
The museum consists of a personal collection of its owner. Here you can find the works of painters such as Dali, Delacroix and Edy Legrand. The paintings are usually Morocco related, and there are also antique porcelains from Fez and Meknes. You can tell this person is passionate about art. It is a small exhibition that will take less than an hour of your time. Therefore, it can be a nice getaway on overwhelmingly hot Marrakech days. The building also has a very nice terrace and cafe. Hamza, who is responsible for the exhibition and the cafe, is very friendly and smiling. Thank you so much Hamza for your genuine conversation!
