Best Museum in Marrakech

The Music Museum is located in the Saadian quarter built in the 16th and 17th centuries. The reception apartment of the museum is a jewel of Arab-Andalusian architecture in Marrakech. Several rooms of the house are dedicated to temporary and permanent exhibitions. The belvedere terrace offers an exceptional view of the Medina and the Atlas Mountains and a restaurant. The diversity of musical traditions in Morocco is exposed in several rooms: Amazigh music, Jewish tradition, daqqa marrakchia, Gnawa music, Arab-Andalusian music. A true musical and visual experience, the Music Museum presents instruments, photographs and videos. The tour provides visitors with keys to understanding Moroccan music.

    Magical music evenings!
Through an arch, and down a lane close to the Fontaine and Mosque Mouassine (and the Place des Epices), and just 40DH (approx €4 entry). In a beautifully restored Saddian house, you can find a wide range of interesting exhibits about music and art plus gorgeous architecture and a pretty rooftop cafe. Try to get to one of their Mon/Wed/Fri music evenings, a real experience for 100dh (approx €10) per person.

Hidden treasure in the Medina off the beaten track
Set down a calm alley in the midst of the busy Medina, this museum offers a relaxing 45 minutes or so to explore the different music and cultures of Morocco, and wider Africa, as well as the art of the artist Mellakh. The building itself is worth the 40dh, with decoration you probably won’t see in our tourist destinations. The staff were friendly and helpful. It’s also nicely signposted. Well worth a visit!
