Boucharouite Museum, Marrakech-Safi, Morocco

Very interesting

This place is interesting in two ways: The exhibition is about rugs weaved by working class families, with old textile stripes or woven into flour bags. They were never meant to be exhibited, which makes seeing the rugs special. The museum is in a beautiful riad with a nice terrace, which was nice as well. But it's a bit expensive, 40 dirhams per person, visit takes about 30 minutes.

    A hidden treasure trove
We enjoyed walking round this beautiful riad and looking at the lovely colours and patterns of the tribal rugs. Soaking up the sun and relaxing on the terrace with a drink seemed the perfect end to our visit, but then we met Patrick, the owner of this museum, who very kindly took us round some of the rugs and explained the hidden symbolism. Suddenly everything took on a new meaning, and we could learn about whole life stories of the women who created this art. Absolutely magical.
