The heartbeat of the centro storico

This piazza is truly one of the loveliest in Italy with the travertine pavement and Renaissance layout. Whether in daylight or at night this piazza is where the people of Ascoli Piceno come to see and be seen.

A beautiful piazza, but NOT the most beautiful in Italy as locals proclaim!
This is a lovely piazza, totally clad in local travertine. I live 30 meters from this place, and walk through it every day. It is really beautiful, but locals claim it is the most beautiful piazza in Italy!!! It is NOT. Tuscany has at least 3-4 which are far nicer, then there is the rest of Italy to consider. But do visit, too bad it is so cluttered with restaurant umbrellas and tables, but??? So, sit and have a drink! Try the famous olives which are really quite wonderful! Ascoli is surely worth a couple days' visit. But it's not very large, you can hit all the high spots in more in a day or two. (now bracing for the attacks!)

a must place to visit whilst in Ascoli
whilst in the piazza ask anyone to point you to piazza verdura or the vegatable market, about 50mts away, you will see daily no frills way of life of mainly farmers wives selling veg, fruit, poultry, cheese etc all home grown.Years ago the farmers usued to start out from their farms in the early hours with a cart laiden with produce to sell.A bit of old Ascoli that has gone on for years. With the clock in the piazza on your right walk past melletti thru a little rue and you arrive in Piazza Roma were you will find a daily market.Turn right on the main road by the market after 400mts arrive at Porta Maggiore were you will find the ruins of a Roman ampytheatre.[excuse spelling]
