Best museum in Maputo

The Museu das Pescas was the best museum I visited in Maputo. It was inaugurated in 2014 (the product of joint cooperation between the governments of Mozambique and Norway), so is still fairly new, and the museum continues to grow and add new exhibits. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and very enthusiastic about the museum. Exhibits in the museum range from the history of fishing in Mozambique to the different types of fish, boats and nets used there. There are many pictures, and everything is labeled - although only in Portuguese. The outside courtyard has several boats and a large fish tank. There is also a small gift shop.

    Great new museum
After seeing the fishermen journeying out into the wilds of the sea day after day during my fourteen day journey, I thought this museum really provided interesting insight into their day to day life; the craft they use and the tools of the trade. Nothing was in English, but you get the picture as you see all the artifacts on display. Well worth a visit and air conditioned as well. Immediately across from the historic fort (a bit off the beaten path). it is locally called the museu de pescas. address which seemingly no one in the city knows: av martires de inhaminga no 67 tele 21 32 13 21. Worth an hour or so if you are into local cultural museums.

    Small but Complete
Its in downtown next to the old fortress, a rehabilitated venue allows visitants to have a notion of what was and still is fishing in Mozambique. 50MZN (less then a Euro or Dollar) / person and you go on a fishing trip with species and techniques you have no idea.
