Panchakki (Water Mill), Maharashtra, India

3.0 (455 reviews) Spent Ranking #20 in Aurangabad District Bodies of Water

A Quiet Place

A small entry fee helps to keep the crowd at bay, making this mill a relatively peaceful afternoon place to be. That being said, the area is quite small so from an explorer's point of view, you finish this quite fast. There is also an area where a dargah can be found just adjacent to the mill. The museum was closed when I was there.

    Panchakki - nothing so memorable
Pan ( Pani -Water) Chakki (Grinding Machine or mills ) in short water powered grinding machine used to grind to Wheat and Bajra ( Milet) in olden days . Built in the early years of the 17th century by the Muslim Sufi Saint Baba Shah Musafir, the Panchakki complex had been a place of external abode of the great Sufi Saints who gathered to India in 12th Cent A.D. Under ground water flow is brought in to this place ( Source of water I am not aware) and with this source grinding machine is rotated . There are 12 feet deep pond near the chakki with lots of cat fish . Pond is well concertized. In the courtyard there is old banyan tree , it is said Baba Shah was doing meditation under this tree. Further inside there is few eateries , few memorabilia shop with high cost . Suggest not to purchase anything from here . There are one mosque inside and then two burials one is of Sant Baba Shah and other one is his nephew's . Entry fee is INR 10 for indian Nationals INR 100 for foreign nationals . No camera charge. There is no parking place also . We had gone in evening so it was pleasant .
