Unforgettable trip down the Tsiribihina River with madagascar-traveler.com - Fabulous and professional
I contacted 'Daddy' (nickname) directly at [email protected]. He was extremely helpful and speaks very good English. With just a few days notice, he picked our party of four up from Antsiribe early so we could stop and walk around Lake Tritriva, then on to Miandrivazo for the night. We had requested three nights camping instead of two so we could take our time floating down the river in the pirogues. Daddy and his three 'crew' paddled the two dugouts while we relaxed and enjoyed the constantly changing scenery. Each night they set up camp beside the river, tents with mattress which were very comfortable. And the food was plentiful and delicious including very fresh chicken. The extra night on the river meant we had time to climb up to a remote cave which has two types of bats. It was amazing. Later we showered under a waterfall and swam in the river. We finally pulled in to shore and a zebu cart transferred our luggage to a 4x4 in the next village. After a very bumpy drive we stopped at Avenue of the Baobabs to watch the sunset which was stunning. Later we arrived at our hotel in Morandava, the end of an amazing and very memorable 5 day tour. Thank you Daddy

Relaxing and fun way to spend 3 days
We booked this trip once in Miandrivazo, the village close to the embarkation point. For 4 people, we paid 350,000 ariary, which is less than 100€ at the time of writing, EVERYTHING included, even rum, and zebu cart to the village at the end. You can have a maximum of 3 people per pirogue, so we had 2 pirogues with 4 boatmen. Our guide was amazing, spoke good French, and decent English, not common in guides around here. Don't go by boat, they are extremely noisy. Or guides name is Robert, can be reached at 00261 324 295 032 or [email protected], highly recommended. We drifted for 3 days, seeing many crocodiles, lemurs, bats, chameleons, many types of birds, kingfishers, even a couple owls. The camping sites Robert chose were far from any other group that so we always felt like we were by ourselves. Either way, if you don't choose this guide, I highly recommend going to Miandrivazo to book your trip. Ignore the touts in Tana and Antsirabe, as they charge you double, keep half in their pockets and then the guide and piroguiers get the same amount that you would give them should you organise without a middle man.
