Lac Sacré, Mahajanga Province, Madagascar

3.5 (65 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #6 in Mahajanga Bodies of Water

Lovely visit, but poorly maintained.

The park is not well maintained, although the guide is well versed the stories and really tried hard to speak English. He was actually great.

    Nature at its best
Natural aquarium where fishes feed from your hand. Dont forget to take some meat as the fishes love meat and the lemurs love bread. Crocodiles in the pen. Fun with the lemurs if they come down from trees. The trail is a bit rough.

Nice place but horrible for the crocs ?
We hade a nice excursion from the resort to Lac Sacre. We whent on a perouge thru the mangrooves to this small village were we got to try some cashew fruits, see the huge mango trees and all diferent kinds of fruit trees. It was a long and wonderful walk to the lake. Our guide didn't speak much english but we hade this frensh couple who spoked english and could translate. There where two things I didn't enjoy with the trip. The first is that the guide fed the Safakis with bread so that we could get close to them. I belive that the lemures will apperently get sick of ingesting bread. And the other sad and more horrible experience whas to see these poor crocs in captivity. They where 12 of them in a small area. I asked the guide why they didn't realease them or killed them instead of keeping them like this. The answer whas that they don't kill the animals and for the protection of the locals they couldn't realease them. I suggest to skip this part and only see how the locals liv, the amazing fruit trees and the lake.
