Puts Naval History in Perspective That You Can Experience in Person
A surprising find in Punta Arenas, this homegrown/homemade museum features 3 historic wooden ships (Magellan’s Nao Victoria , Darwin’s HMS Beagle and the James Caird which was the craft that Shackleton used to sail to South Georgia from Elephant Island). Impressive to be able to actually walk the decks of the bigger ships and explore inside the various areas. Makes you appreciate not only the physical but the mental/emotional challenges the sailors faced. The attraction is easily missed unless you know what to look for in that part of town and it is not readily visible unless it is pointed out. Supported only by admission fees which are quite cheap. Not high tech, but neither were the vessels. Interesting and especially unexpected.

    Fun and small ship replica
Came as part of the tour. Very much enjoyed it! I would recommend anyone with an interest to boat and to history to stop by and visit. It’s more like a private self built one to one replica demonstration than a museum. The one star deduction is due to the museum is pretty small and unless you are interested in the four boats and their history there are not much else to do. Price is 5000 clp or 7 usd when I visited
