Choose north, not south
The guide, Pierre, does not speak English or if he did he made no attempt to communicate with me and did not seem to care that I didn’t understand what was happening what was being said. Kindly there were some other people on the boat trip who were able to translate for me. The snorkelling itself is okay, there was some quite nice coral to be seen and we saw giant clams, small sharks, and a Manta Ray. I was disappointed that we did not go far out to lagoon to some of the distant islands in the chain . Indeed, the first snorkelling spot was actually off the main island of Ouvea and I could’ve gone there myself. The equipment is worn out and tatty. The wetsuits are ripped and torn and there are clasps missing from the uncomfortable snorkel gear. I think that the m northern boat trip might be a better option but I didn’t experience that.
