Interpretive site

This is a nice educational site along our bike route that describes the Venus statue found here in the early 1900s while excavating a paleolithic site. The original statue is only about 11cm high (less than 5 inches) and was remarkable in that several other Venus-type carvings have been found across the world. The Willendorf figurine is approximated to be almost 30,000 years old. The historic site has a large reproduction statue so you can appreciate the figure, plus some interpretive signs. Short walkway with some steps to navigate to get to it. Look for the tourist information office nearby. Scenic overlook of the Danube and local vineyards, as well

    25-28,000 BC sculpture site
The Venus of Willendorf is one of the oldest statues found in Europe. You can visit the site where it was found and see a large replica. The real statue is in the Vienna Museum.
