Natural history museum in a great art deco building
Next to the modern art museum (closed for renovations) and the history and ethnography museum, is this small museum detailing the life and work of the German-Chilean explorer of Italian origin. Here one can see his study, as well as some of the coloured drawings he made of birds and penguins. He explored all of Chile and some of the artefacts are on display here. Explanation is only in Spanish.

Good exhibits showing Chile's past
The former home of an explorer, the building was actually moved from one site to another. It shows a lot of information about the early (European) explorers of Chile.

Natural history artifacts/some exploration tools
I passed by the collection of beetles and bugs as I've seen that dozens of times over in museums and instead saw some interesting exploration tools/maps used by early explorers. One neat artifact located discretely in the hallway is the only glass artifact known that withstood the 1960 earthquake. Pretty cool!
