    Lovely museum.
Just love the fact that with your ticket you get a free tour. It is always so much better than reading signs. A very interesting and well displayed museum with a nice shop. Not easy to find nice artifacts so it was really good that this museum had such a variety!

    Pleasant surprise
Iquitos is typically a "passing through" venue for tourists interested in exploring by river, tributaries of the Amazon. It is a big tropical "working" city. In the old town, facing the old waterfront, there is a museum that for a few dollars can present in a small space a lot of information and visual reminders of cultures in the Amazon basin whose artifacts are not especially durable. I had a great time on a self directed tour (the one employee started a tour but had to manage the front desk) and thoroughly enjoyed what I saw. I travel guide who told me he grew up in the basin picked up a six foot blowgun and explained that this was what he was trained with as a child! A great stop in a city with few "normal" tourist activities within itself
