The original Walker, Texas Ranger hatter!
While in town for some of Lockhart's famous BBQ, we had to make a detour to the original hatter of Chuck Norris' Walker, Texas Ranger. Stepping through the front door propels you back in time. These guys have done hats for some of the greats of the world, from Chuck Norris, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Willie Nelson, Lewis Hamilton, and President Reagan, just to name a few. I was honored to have a chat with David about some of his clients, and the little back stories that go along with their experiences. He took the time to instruct me in the caring for, and wearing of, my hat. I have to admit that as a 51yr old Texan, this was my first cowboy hat. The way I looked at it was that if I was gonna buy a hat, I should get one from the Master Hatter who made the hats for Chuck Norris!! I was very pleased with my purchase, and look forward to another trip to Lockhart for some more BBQ and hat lore!

    Great great great!!!
This was on my list of things to do in the town and I am so very happy that I stopped by. David and his wife were absolutely wonderful. I was shown the back room where the hats are made and David even did a demo for us! This store is one of the last hat makers in the country and it is evident by the pictures on his walls of famous people that he is very good at his trade. The store does have in stock a few standard hats, which I did buy, but the true art is having a custom hat made especially for you there. The technology is 1920's old school and is a beautiful hat when finished. I was shown many examples of their work.... yes, I said "their work" because both David and his wife make hats. It has been handed down through the generations. It is such a unique experience to stop in this store. Go see ... go experience because I had a wonderful time!
