Mapungubwe Museum, Limpopo Province, South Africa

Beautiful Museum

The building itself is very beautiful. This is one of the few museums I have visited in South Africa that I would recommend (the others seem to be collections of blown up newspaper articles). Thoughtfully curated. The golden rhino is obviously the main draw, but its worth going through all the other exhibits to learn about the long and complicated history of Mapungubwe. I heavily recommend pairing this with the heritage tour offered by the Park. Our guide was Cedric and he did a fantastic job of giving us an overview of the history as well as answering all our questions.

    World heritage site
In this museum you can learn about the human development and occupation among years, their habits and the park’s history. Beyond that you have a wonderful game reserve to explore (with the triple border) and the confluence view. It does not worth travel all the way from Johannesburg. But if you are at the north part of Kruger, go and make a visit

    Poor Service
I visited with family the Mapungubwe Museum. However the Receptionist Khensani could not explain the procedure for the Museum. When we reach the Museum we were told that if to go the Mountain or the hill where the Rhino Gold was found we need to pay extra money. This information was revealed to us as tourist, the Museum lost income and we were denied an opportunity to visit the important site.
