Bakone Malapa Open-Air Museum, Limpopo Province, South Africa

4.5 (23 reviews) Sunday: Spent Ranking #3 in Polokwane Speciality Museums

Fun and very informative

We visited on the 24/12/2019 and it was empty, which is so sad because the entrance fee is just R15. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Our tour guide was welcoming, informative and demonstrated some examples as well. our heritage and culture need to be preserved. so grateful for this place. Great place to visit with the whole family.

Well worth the effort to get there.
Superb, very enthusiastic, and a credit to SA. Yes it a static display. And it needs interpretation. No guide to tell you what you are looking at, and it would be a waste of time. We visited on a day when most of the staff were way at a union meeting. So the place was going to close. But there was a group of trainee tour guides on site and they showed us round! The students were amazed to learn that an area occupied by one house for one of the wives in a krall would have three to four houses in the same area in the UK.

    Wonderful experience
I took 4 children on my own. We spent 4 hours at Bakone and they were constantly entertained by the amazing tour guide. So many hands on experiences and no limitations on experiencing the museum. Dressing up, traditional games and so much more. More than value for money. Love visiting this spot.
