Great Climbing Tower; Church in need of Refurbishment

The inside of the church is like many other churches and has many historic graves on the floor. As you look around you do see that the church is seeking funding to refurbish the ceiling and parts that showing the age of the church. For a few Euros, you can climb to the top of the red tower and get a great view of the valley and city. Th climb is about 200 steps so plan on the long climb. There is a history room about 1/3 the way up the stairs and a great place to rest. IT is tight squeeze to get by the people coming up and going down...do not bring a backpack on the stairs. The church is a very nice place and lots of history of the Reformation.

Be sure to visit on November 11th
The church and tower are obviously awesome, but if you visit on November 11 of each year, you ll have an experience of a lifetime at the square near this place! Everyone will be disguised and dancing, an incredible festive mood will be ongoing! Do not miss it on this date!

The history of the red (by the city guide)
The guide explained us that the tower was made with the yellow millstone, very common in the city, but considered poor since it was a very easy to find material, accessible to everyone. Since this church was mainly for the rich, they decided to paint it. And, apparently, they did it with the blood of 500 slaughtered protestants. The red gave the milestone the image of another (can't remember the name) rock, much more expensive at the time, so with a more "rich" image. They maintain the "red" with a specific product...
