Amazing

Went for the andre rieu Christmas concert and it was amazing. Pity the MEN in manchester England isn't as organised. Taxi organisers outside enabled a quick getaway and everyone was pleasant.

    Andre Rieu Christmas Concert
Amazing experience! This was the first time Andre Rieu held a Christmas Concert in his hometown of Maastricht. The MECC is a massive place and it was extravagantly decorated for the festive season. Beautiful lights everywhere - Christmas scenes with trees and snow. People dressed in 19th century costumes walking and mingling among the crowd and musicians playing Christmas carols. The auditorium was magnificently decorated and seating was very well planned. Besides the large screens on either side of the stage, the projections throughout the concert were truly magical. There were also two areas for ice skaters who performed during some of the orchestra's tunes. At one point, large amounts of artificial snow rained on us from the ceiling and it felt quite surreal - a veritable winter wonderland! Another item ticked off my Bucket List :)

    Huge arena and wonderful staff
We visited MECC in December 2022 for the Andre Rieu show. The MECC is a great space for both the main show and pre-show extravaganza of the winter wonderland. The staff in the arena were very helpful and attentive, especially for my mum who came in a wheelchair and needed special assistance. The team couldn't have done more to help us. The only main criticism was the token system, which wasn't explained in any of the pre-show communications. To buy food and drinks inside the arena (or anything else being sold) you had to pay in tokens. To pay in tokens you had to buy these tokens before you went into the arena, and at the main point of sale for these they only accepted cash (but did sell them at other points inside using card). This seems to be quite common across the continent but did seem to cause a lot of confusion on the day that could have been cleared up with stronger communications.
