Maastricht Underground, Limburg Province, The Netherlands

4.5 (3.131 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Maastricht Caverns & Caves

A must do in Maastricht.

An amazing experience. We the did Guided Tour Fort Sint Pieter (English) and Guided Tour North Caves (English). Both tours were an hour each. Tom was our tour guide. He was very knowledgeable & witty. The tours are just outside the city centre. I would recommend walking as the bus takes just as long or longer if your bus driver gets confused and drops you off in Belgium!

Amazing experience with a funny guide! Definitely recommend it
We chose the English tour of the North Caves. I took the tour two times, one last year and the other one, this year, but this time it was with a turn. We had the pleasure to have Ed as the guide. His jokes, his personality and the little trick during the tour made it a great experience. At some point it became a rollercoaster of emotions, in a good way I mean, everything was safe and we all returned well home afterwards. All the information Ed provided, plus the special beauty of the caves, stayed with us for a while after the tour ended. I definitely recommend this experience to anyone who would like to discover something else about Maastricht, besides its architecture, as there is so much more to see underneath. Many thanks to Ed.

Discover the underground of Maastricht and bring a jacket
The Maastricht underground has been a pleasant surprise. You start the tour at the Fort and after 300 meters walk to reach the entrance. The day we visited was actually warm, but I had the good idea to bring my jacket with me, event if I did not know what to expect. And it was a good idea; once you enter the tunnels (human made), you start wandering at the light of torches in a place a constant 10 degrees and 90% humidity. The place is a labyrinth and w/o a light or a guide you could be lost until somebody is able to rescue you. It's almost a prank, but somebody planted some chicory in a small allotment to make advantage of the darkness and humidity. I normally hate guides, I prefer to follow my own pace, but our guide was very funny and engaging. Worthwhile to visit
