Sadly, few take this tour
I was incredibly lucky to be asked to take a tour down the Lika River when in Croatia in September and I'm glad I did. This 80 minute boat ride up and down the Lika River was relaxing and spectacular. I not only did still photo's but made a video from those photos because of the beauty of this man made River. Notes: This is the longest river in Croatia. It is the second longest man made river in Europe. The river is drained every 10 years and cleaned. Seven hundred families once lived where the river now exists. The River was created by the dam which is down river. The river was built 50 years ago. Locals come here to fish.

Awesome
It is known as a sinking river because at the end of its course, it flows into a series of ponors or swallow-holes and disappears from the surface. The Lika River rises near the village of Kukljić at the foot of the Velebit Mountains, flows in a northwesterly direction past the town of Gospić, enters and leaves Lake Krušćica, and continues to the northwest until it sinks into the karst topography at ponors near Lipovo Polje.

Amazing ride
Great choice for everyone who loves nature! A peaceful ride down the Lika river all the way to artificial lake Krušćica which is placed on top of a flooded village. You can stay and camp there if you want to or just continue exploring the area- Grabovača caves in Perušić, Nikola Tesla Museum in Smljan, Nature park North Velebit which are all placed near by and easily accessible by car. Also, a nearest place on the sea is less than an hour away (Karlobag).
